Summer Internship 2026
Dear prospective applicants,
We are offering a one-month internship as part of a summer job in our Research and Data Services Department at the Austrian National Library.
Are you studying computer science, data science, digital humanities, or a related field, and interested in working on an innovative project involving the digital collections of the Austrian National Library as part of a one-month internship (summer internship, 38.5 hours/week) between August 17 and October 31, 2026?
Have you already gained some initial experience in machine learning, data analysis, or data visualization? If so, we look forward to receiving your application in German or English (CV, cover letter including a brief description of your projaect idea, and your preferred time frame) via the ONB job portal. There you will also find more information about what we offer.
The Austrian National Library has already digitized more than 740,000 books and approximately 1,600 newspaper titles dating from the 16th century through the 1950s, totaling around 230 million pages. For your internship project, you can draw from a wide range of image data as well as OCR-processed text data in hOCR and ALTO formats. In addition, a server infrastructure (including GPUs) is available for machine learning projects.
