The metadata is based on the library catalogue and contains 3.206 instances relating to as many objects held in the collection of pamphlets within the Department of Manuscripts and Rare Books. For more information on the data points and their respective contents check the Readme linked below.
The data set has not been cleaned, augmented or corrected. It does not represent the entirety of the collection of pamphlets at the Department of Manuscripts and Rare Books, but merely an excerpt of it (see Historical Background below). When the data set was originally put together in 2018 only those objects were chosen that had already been catalogized as well as digitized.

Historical Background

The entire collection of pamphlets held within the Department of Manuscripts and Rare Books comprises approximately 20.000 items in total. The biggest holding within this collection are the pamphlets from 1848 (more than 10.000), the year of the revolution in the Habsburg Monarchy. The entire collection has been included in the national Memory of Austria list in 2016, that is part of the Memory of the World documentary heritage programme.

-model that is meant to be able to automatically recognize pamphlets from different time periods and from different writers and/or printers. Since the data set contains metadata to text documents, it could be used to gain an exemplary understanding of the distribution of languages over time, and to therefore gain an insight into certain characteristics that might be present in the entire collection. It might also be possible to visualize a network of people and/or publishers (via the data point 'persons' and/or 'publishers').
